Desktop apps

Desktop software for Mac, Windows, and Linux, from one codebase

Some work belongs on a desktop: tools that read local files, talk to hardware, run all day in the background, or need to work with no internet at all. Rune builds those as real installed applications, with installers, auto-updates, and the OS integration a browser cannot offer.

We have shipped desktop software to thousands of designers; see Yeti Launch below.

  • One codebase, every OS
  • Auto-updates
  • Deep OS integration
What is included

Desktop apps

Quoted fixed-price before any work starts, and yours to keep when it is done.

Mac, Windows, Linux

Electron or Tauri, chosen for the job, so one codebase produces a native-feeling app on every platform.

Auto-updates

Signed builds that update themselves quietly, so nobody is running last year's version.

Installers and signing

Notarized Mac builds, signed Windows installers, and Linux packages, so installs do not trip security warnings.

Local files and hardware

Read and write the file system, talk to USB and serial devices, print, and run background tasks.

Offline by design

Works with no connection and syncs when one is available. Data stays on the machine when it should.

Shares code with your web app

If you also have a web version, most of the interface is the same code, so features land in both.

FAQ

Questions we get about this

Electron or something lighter?

Electron is the proven choice with the biggest ecosystem. Tauri produces much smaller, faster apps when the job allows. We pick based on what the app has to do, not habit.

Can it talk to our existing systems?

Yes. Desktop apps are a good fit for connecting to local databases, legacy software, and hardware that a web app cannot reach.
